ENVE reveal a new one-piece bar and stem that costs $1200/£1300

The AR one-piece bar and stem have more than 20 size options, all with a flared profile but can they justify the price?

ENVE has released the AR one-piece bar and stem as an aftermarket component upgrade. The bars themselves have been available for a little while but only as part of a complete bike build. Bolstering the bar's premium credentials is that they are manufactured at ENVE’s headquarters in Utah, United States. This allows them to have complete control of the manufacturing process from start to finish.

The first thing to get out of the way is the price. There is no way around it, these bars are a lot of money. At £1300/$1200 they are reserved for superbikes and custom bike builds. The real question is what do you get for that heavy investment?

The AR (all road) bar and stem feature the latest in aerodynamic design with CFD (computational fluid dynamics) playing a big role in the profile of the bars. They are said to reduce drag and increase comfort. The brand has done this with an on-trend flare to the bars that make the drops 50mm wider than the hoods across the size run.

ENVE, supplier of bikes to UCI ProTeam TotalEnergies, also brought in accessory mounting brand K-edge to design a bespoke computer mount that would efficiently integrate with the bars. The bars themselves are also compatible with complete internal cable routing as well as coming with a spacer kit for the brand's own IN-Route routing system, making set up with compatible bikes that little bit easier.

As far as sizing is concerned you should be able to find exactly what you are looking for with the bars available from 38cm through to 46cm, from hood-to-hood in 20mm increments. There is even more choice when it comes to stem length with a range of 90mm through to 140mm available in 10mm increments as standard. However, 5mm increments can be ordered upon request. Depending on which exact combination you opt for the system will come in at between 330 and 360 grams, which is competitive for an integrated cockpit.

There is also a more performance road version of the bars coming soon with ENVE teasing as much in the AR’s press release. The bars used by Tadej Pogačar and the rest of UAE Team Emirates will be made available to the public at a later date. These will feature a narrower profile whilst retaining a 50mm flare to the drops.

Currently, there is no exact date on when these SES Pro Team bars will be available but expect them to carry an equally hefty price tag.
